About me
I’m a Bromley Park resident with more than 25 years of working in the utility industry, a military veteran who graduated from South Dakota State University with a degree in English, and I have two grown children, one of whom still lives with me in Brighton. I have a long resume of dedicated participation in the community.
In addition to working on the Brighton City Council, I also serve as Vice President of the 27J School Board, a growing metro school district with more than 20,000 students which just opened three, new STEM/Career Technical Education centers and a new K-8 discovery magnet school this year. Since 2018, I sit on the Adams County Board of Adjustment—allowing residents to seek variances for situations blocked by over-regulated ordinances and outdated rules. I have been on the Board of Almost Home in Brighton since 2016, which promotes self-sufficiency and assists people experiencing housing instability. And, I serve on the Board of the Richard Lambert Foundation Family Grief and Healing Center and on my local Rotary club. Additionally, I can easily be found at most community gatherings in Brighton or walking my dog in the neighborhood. I may not be everywhere, but I try to be.
From the first day I moved here, I have been an active volunteer in many Brighton organizations. I care deeply about the future of this city and I'm not hard to find. If you have issues to discuss, I am ready to listen and give honest answers.
My time on Council has demonstrated my experience and has shown I can deliver for my Ward residents. The current Council members know how to work together to find solutions for improving our city. Together, we reach consensus on decisions that benefit the people we represent; we manage a $230 million budget with the utmost in fiduciary care; and we deliver great benefits that the people of this City have been asking for.

We are making a difference. Because I filled an unexpired term, I have only spent a year on Council. I want to do more. Your City Council has worked hard to make Brighton a better place. A city you can be proud to call your home.
The course we've charted for Brighton is exciting and we have even more great things on the horizon. We want to manage development to focus more on improving amenities--upgrading our parks, expanding trails, attracting quality retail and eating establishments, and fixing our traffic congestion. We are concentrating on more single-family homes (not huge apartment buildings). Our new water treatment plant is well underway (which will improve our water quality), the streets are getting improved including multi-modal options, and the Council is looking long-term in its budgeting processes. Through grants and a cost-conscious approach, we will have the money to pay for all these improvements without asking you for more. This is wonderful time for our City.
Is Brighton perfect? No. But we are accomplishing more by working together to solve problems and moving forward rather than dwelling on previous decisions. By re-electing Tom Green to your City Council, the future of Brighton is in great hands.

Just as I promised in my first campaign, we are now seeing more retail and dining opportunities in Brighton. Your City Council, along with the Brighton Economic Development Corporation and City staff have secured the eating choices you have been asking for in Brighton including Olive Garden, In-N-Out Burger and Raising Cane's. This will only lead to even more opportunities. Every day we have more and more interest from new, exciting retail and eating options. They see Brighton is the place to be.
We've brought better-paying, quality jobs to Brighton. We've added more jobs that housing units since 2010. Local jobs mean our citizens can enjoy more time with their families and less time behind a windshield. Vestas is ramping production back up. Wells Concrete is quickly becoming the go-to company for pre-cast concrete innovations and making a lasting impact on our community. In June, VSK Energy announced a solar panel manufacturing facility bringing 900 jobs and an average salary of more than $70,000 to the 76 Commerce center east of town. And even more good-paying jobs are in the pipeline for our community. Tom Green and the Brighton City Council are delivering the high-quality jobs that can benefit our community and attract more commercial opportunities!
For current residents, we are managing growth by approving more affordable single-family and town homes instead of huge apartment buildings.
We've also undertaken the largest capital improvement project ever in the history of Brighton. Currently, Brighton can treat 12.5 gallons of water daily with the capacity to store up 16 million gallons for later use. Our new $155 million water treatment plant will nearly double that amount, preparing us for a future of well-managed growth. Aside from our new water treatment plant, Brighton is also building a new Public Works Service Center becoming our home base for most of our street maintenance, fleet maintenance and parks and utility maintenance functions. It will also have a space for Brighton Police Substation. By closing down our small wastewater facility and transitioning over to Metro Wastewater we are going to save the residents of Brighton $60 million dollars. That's money that can be better spent in our community. Look around, we are making the necessary investments for the future. We are making Brighton a better city every day.
Brighton is a great city, and this Council wants the folks who live here to spend more time in it, instead of driving away every day. Sales tax accounts for 75% of the City’s general fund budget. The more we can expand that tax base, the more dollars we have available to improve our community. With the struggles of inflation and ever-increasing costs, we are all feeling tapped out. We don’t need to tax you more or increase rates. We are growing our city reasonably with upmost concern for our residents and fiscal responsibility in our government for the increased revenue that will bring.
Promises KEPT for improving the City of Brighton
The top priority for me on the City Council was ensuring we have the resources needed on the streets and behind the scenes to keep Brighton safe. Working with the 27J School District, we have found the money to put armed safety personal and campus safety supervisors at EVERY district-managed school in Brighton. We have prioritized our budget to make sure our public services, including our police and public works department, have top notch equipment and personnel to keep our community safe and in good repair. We broke ground in 2023 on a new Municipal Service Center to house all our street equipment, provide a Police Substation on our western edge and united our fleet, parks and open space, public works, and utilities, all of which currently operate in separate aging facilities. Additionally, we’ve grown our police department by more than 12 officers--including new resource officers for schools to protect kids and adding mental-health co-responders to go on calls to help community members in crisis
Second, Brighton will continue to improve our streets. We've already begun the $19.5 million widening of Bridge Street a long-needed project that will help ease the bottlenecks in Ward One. We will also be expanding 45th street between Bromley and Southern to present another alternative for our residents to get to their homes in Northgate, Brighton East Farms, and across the community. As part of a new residential development, 50th street will also be widened to four lanes as you approach the frontage road to improve the flow of traffic. The intersection of 40th and Bridge Street will be widened and upgraded to improve the backups that form traveling north. We're putting stoplights at the I-76 and Bromley interchange. Your City Council and our streets department are looking at the challenges of traffic congestion and addressing them head on to improve how you get around our city.
Finally, we will continue to upgrade to the quality of life in Brighton. We've invested in Brighton’s future. Over the past year we've improved the playgrounds and parks all across Brighton. Donelson park received a major facelift including a new all-ages playground and paved parking! Our sporting complex near the Prairie Center received new energy-saving LED lights and turf. Water Tower park received a major upgrade including new year-round turf fields for football, rugby and soccer; LED lighting to expand the usage hours; amenities for the spectators; a playground for children; and fencing to protect the facilities. We’re also adding new exercise and walking paths for Brighton Crossings and Bromley Park.
This campaign is not about a single issue. My campaign is about who you can have the confidence in to take our city even further. The City of Brighton is poised to have a tremendous future and I think my service on Council has contributed to that. We have a level-headed, experienced leader who will listen to the community members and continue to make the best decisions for Ward 1 and our city.
